 2017 Preview

Tharptown finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Tharptown finished seventh in Class 1A region eight with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Wildcats have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Wildcats have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Tharptown averaged scoring just 13.4 points a game.

The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Tharptown football program has struggled with a record of 13-57.

Over the past 11 seasons, Tharptown has not won much with a record of 24-82. Their 23.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 1A and 372nd in the AHSAA. The Wildcats have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Kevin Lacey who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Tharptown. The Wildcats saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Lacey arrived. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lacey.

Coach Lacey's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%).

The Tharptown Wildcats will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2017 season.

This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight.

The Wildcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Phil Campbell on Friday, August 25. Last year the Phil Campbell Bobcats finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 2A region eight. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Hackleburg by a score of 35-19.

Tharptown and Phil Campbell have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-5-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2016 with Phil Campbell winning by a score of 20-0.
