 2017 Preview 


       Ellwood Christian finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Ellwood Christian finished seventh in Class 1A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Ellwood Christian averaged scoring just 10.6 points a game. The Eagles also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 46.6 points a game.

       The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Ellwood Christian football program has struggled with a record of 18-53.

       The Eagles are led by head coach Mike Stokes who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-35 over the past four seasons at Ellwood Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Stokes.

       Coach Stokes' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 7-35 (16.7%).

       The Ellwood Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region three during the 2017 season.

       The Eagles enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 17 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Ellwood Christian will be to simply win some games.

       The Eagles open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Wilcox Central on Friday, August 25 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Wilcox Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 5A region one.

       Ellwood Christian and Wilcox Central have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 0-2-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2016 with Wilcox Central winning by a score of 32-6.
