2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Elkmont finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Elkmont finished seventh in Class 4A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Devils hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 8-3 record in 2014. Elkmont was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Red Devils want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.3 points a game. Elkmont struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.3 points a game. Since 2010, Elkmont has gone a combined 26-37. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 3A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Elkmont has managed to compile a record of 113-148. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 3A and 253rd in the AHSAA. The Red Devils are led by head coach Sean Holt who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-31 over the past five seasons at Elkmont. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Holt. Coach Holt's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 22-31 (41.5%). The Elkmont Red Devils will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2016 season. The Red Devils may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region eight this year. With a little luck and some improvement, the Red Devils could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Elkmont came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Red Devils open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Addison on Friday, August 19 at A.G. Hicks Stadium. Last year the Addison Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region six. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Red Bay by a score of 56-15. Elkmont and Addison have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 0-3-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1949 with Addison winning by a score of 24-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
