 2016 Preview

Addison completed the 2015 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region six, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Addison's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Red Bay by a score of 56-15.

Addison took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2009. The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The defense allowed a team record 341 points last season.

Since 2010, Addison has gone a combined 47-20. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Addison has gone a combined 218-80. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 1A and 17th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Smothers who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-15 over the past four seasons at Addison. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smothers.

Coach Smothers' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 28-15 (65.1%).

The Addison Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region seven this year.

The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Bulldogs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Elkmont on Friday, August 19 at A.G. Hicks Stadium. Last year the Elkmont Red Devils finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 4A region eight. The Red Devils ended last season on a positive note with a win over Clements by a score of 45-31 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Addison and Elkmont have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 3-0-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 1949 with Addison winning by a score of 24-6.
