 2016 Preview

Central completed the 2015 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Central just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region four with a 2-5 region record.

The Falcons had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points.

Since 2010, Central has gone a combined 19-43. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 150-123. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 5A and 133rd in the AHSAA.

The Falcons are led by head coach Dennis Connor who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-43 over the past six seasons at Central. Under his direction the Falcons have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Connor.

Coach Connor's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 19-43 (30.6%).

The Central Falcons will play in Class 5A region three during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Falcons remain in 5A but move from region four over to region three.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Falcons could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. Central came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Falcons open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Bessemer City on Friday, August 19 at Falcon Stadium. Last year the Bessemer City Purple Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region four. The Purple Tigers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Benjamin Russell by a score of 36-13.

Central and Bessemer City have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 15-15-0 record against the Purple Tigers. They last met in 2005 with Bessemer City winning by a score of 65-8.
