2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Marbury finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Marbury finished seventh in Class 5A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 486 points last season. The Bulldogs have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2008 season and would love to end that streak this year. Marbury struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 48.6 points a game. Since 2010, Marbury has gone a combined 20-40. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Marbury has managed to compile a record of 117-142. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 5A and 241st in the AHSAA. James Strickland leaves Marbury after six seasons with a 20-40 record and no playoff appearances with the program. James Brothers moves over from Autaugaville after spending the past four seasons leading the football program. His teams finished a combined 18-23 including 1-1 in the post season. Coach Brothers' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 18-23 (43.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Brothers' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Marbury Bulldogs will play in Class 5A region three during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Bulldogs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. The Bulldogs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent B.T. Washington on Friday, August 19 at Marbury Stadium. Last year the B.T. Washington Golden Eagles finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in sixth place in Class 5A region two. The Golden Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Carroll by a score of 66-14. Marbury and B.T. Washington have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 1-3-0 record against the Golden Eagles. They last met in 2013 with Marbury winning by a score of 33-25. Marbury returns 5A All-State Senior receiver Quinton Sutton. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
