 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region 2, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. McKenzie's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Linden by a score of 38-28.

       Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, McKenzie has gone a combined 43-21. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, McKenzie has managed to compile a record of 128-138. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 1A and 203rd in the AHSAA.

       The Tigers are led by head coach Tony Norris who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-4 record in his first season at McKenzie. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Norris.

       Coach Norris's overall record as a head football coach in one seasons stands at 6-4 (60.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Norris's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

      

      The McKenzie Tigers will play in Class 1A region 2 during the 2016 season.

       The Tigers should contend for a playoff spot in Region 2 this season.

       The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Ariton on Friday, August 19 at Robert F. Zumstien Stadium. Last year the Ariton Purple Cats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region 2. The Purple Cats lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Fayetteville by a score of 35-26.

       McKenzie and Ariton have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 7-7-0 record against the Purple Cats. They last met in 2016 with Ariton winning by a score of 33-26.

       McKenzie returns 1A All-State Senior defensive back Chris Shufford. He was named to the first team last season. The Tigers also return Senior punter William Brown. He was named to the honorable mention team.
