 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region 3, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Handley's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to UMS-Wright by a score of 20-8.

       Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Handley has gone a combined 48-23. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Handley has managed to compile a record of 176-113. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 4A and 85th in the AHSAA.

       The Tigers are led by head coach Larry Strain who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-3 record in his first season at Handley. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Strain.

       Coach Strain's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen seasons stands at 110-89 (55.3%). His 110 wins rank 44th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Strain's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times and won two region championships.

      

      The Handley Tigers will play in Class 4A region 3 during the 2016 season.

       The Tigers should contend for a playoff spot in Region 3 this season.

       The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Callaway GA on Friday, August 26 at Wright Field.

       Handley and Callaway GA have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 0-2-0 record against Callaway GA. They last met in 2016 with Callaway GA winning by a score of 42-28.

  








Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
