2026 Preview

Haleyville finished the 2025 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Haleyville finished eighth in Class 4A region five with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.        Haleyville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2021. The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2000. The Lions hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they did not win a game which followed a 5-5 record in 2024.        The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Haleyville averaged scoring just 13.5 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 37.7 points a game.        Since 2010, Haleyville has gone a combined 91-83. Their 52.3% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 3A over the past sixteen seasons.        Over the past 25 seasons, Haleyville has managed to compile a record of 151-119. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 3A and 125th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change:      Bo Culver  leaves Haleyville after an dismal 2025 football season. 2026 Head Coach:     Alex De Leon  stepped in as the interim head coach at Haleyville with the departure of Coach Culver and was named the Head Coach in June. Season Outlook:        The Haleyville Lions will play in Class 3A region five during the 2026 season.               The Lions enter the 2026 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.        The 0-10 season last year in Haleville was the worst in twenty-five years.     This season, the Lions will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Haleyville will be to simply win some games.

Season Opener:
       The Lions open the 2026 season on the road against non-region opponent Sheffield on Friday, August 21 at Walton R. Wright Stadium. Last year the Sheffield Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in eighth place in Class 3A region seven. The Bulldogs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Shoals Christian by a score of 64-18 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Haleyville and Sheffield have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Lions have a 2-2-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1993 with Haleyville winning by a score of 28-0.
