2026 Preview

Central finished the 2025 season with a disappointing 0-9 record. Last year Central finished seventh in Class 2A region one with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.        The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2016. The Lions have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2026.        The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Central Hayneville averaged scoring just 7.4 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 45.2 points a game.        The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-16 record. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 32-120.        Over the past 25 seasons, Central has not won much with a record of 49-193. Their 20.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 1A and 382nd in the AHSAA. The Lions have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Head Coach:        The Lions are led by head coach Jul Little who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 2-16 over the past two seasons at Central. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Little. Season Outlook:        The Central Lions will play in Class 1A region four during the 2026 season.        The Lions have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 54-35 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 1A and 41st in the AHSAA.        The Lions enter the 2026 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.            This season, the Lions will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Central will be to simply win some games.

Season Opener:
       The Lions open the 2026 season at home against non-region opponent Notasulga on Friday, August 21 at Sellers Stadium. Last year the Notasulga Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 5-4 and in fourth place in Class 1A region four. The Blue Devils lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to University Charter School by a score of 54-14.

       Central and Notasulga have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Lions have a 2-1-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2023 with Notasulga winning by a score of 32-8.
