 2026 Preview 


       Maplesville completed the 2025 season with a 15-0 record. Last year Maplesville captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Red Devils reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 1A State Championship by defeating Wadley at the Alabama Super Seven 42-22 in Birmingham.

       No team at Maplesville ever won more games in a season than the fifteen victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 1996.

       The high-scoring Maplesville offense ranked 7th in the AHSAA. They averaged 47.4 points a game.

       The Red Devils defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 2nd in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 4.5 points a game.

       Over the past two seasons the Red Devils have Finished 27-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Maplesville has gone a combined 185-29. Their 86.4% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A over the past sixteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Maplesville has finished a combined 256-63. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A and 3rd in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2004.

Coaching Change:
     Brad Abbott  retired from the sidelines following a stellar career as a head football coach. His record over fourteen seasons is an outstanding 117-53. Each of his teams reached the playoffs and he capped off his career with a perfect 15-0 record and a state championship in 2025.

Abbott's record in seven seasons at Maplesville was 72-20 and 17-6 in the playoffs.

2026 Head Coach:
    Brent Hubbert  returns from a one year retirement to take over the reins at a school he is very familiar with having been the head coach at Maplesville for fifteen seasons. He brings home a record of 241-59 including three consecutive state championship rings. Coach Hubbert has won three state championships at Maplesville, the last coming in 2016. His 241 wins rank 11th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Hubbert's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-three times and won fourteen region championships. He has a 47-20 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches.

Season Outlook:

       The Maplesville Red Devils will play in Class 1A region four during the 2026 season.

      

       The Red Devils enter the 2026 season riding a 15 game winning streak. They have also won 10 consecutive regular season games. Maplesville has won 10 consecutive region games. They have won 11 straight games on their home turf at George Walker Jr. Stadium.

       All Maplesville did last year is exactly what every fan thought they would do before the first snap of the 2025 football season. They finished with a 15-0 record and a state championship.

       Many think that was just the beginning for the Red Devils and they return a cast of stars very capable of pulling off a repeat performance in 2026.

       Nehemiah McCary rushed for 836 yards and 19 TDs and will return for his Junior season. McCary is also a beast on defense.



    The Red Devils enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region four and should be a team considered a favorite to reach the Class 1A AHSAA Championship game in December. The Red Devils have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2003 and this year should be no exception.

The Coach had this to say:
      Need to build depth in a hurry. Replacing QB and two leading receivers on offense. And three leading tacklers on defense.

Season Opener:
       The Red Devils open the 2026 season at home against non-region opponent Isabella on Friday, August 28 at George Walker Jr. Stadium. Last year the Isabella Mustangs finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region five. The Mustangs lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Coosa Christian by a score of 56-14.

       Maplesville and Isabella have met a total of 86 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 63-18-5 record against the Mustangs. They last met in 2025 with Maplesville winning by a score of 42-7.
