 2022 Preview

Sheffield finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Sheffield finished sixth in Class 2A region eight with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2009.

Sheffield was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.8 points a game.

Since 2010, Sheffield has gone a combined 61-70. Their 46.6% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Sheffield has managed to compile a record of 130-141. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 2A and 212nd in the AHSAA.

The Bulldogs will be under the direction of new head football coach Brian Dickerson as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Dickerson served as the offensive coordinator at Prattville last season.

The Sheffield Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2022 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. After just 2 wins last year, Sheffield will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Bulldogs open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Elkmont on Thursday, August 18 at Boss Hill Stadium. Last year the Elkmont Red Devils finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 3A region eight. The Red Devils closed out the regular season with a loss to Hanceville by a score of 24-6.

Sheffield and Elkmont have met a total of 15 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 11-4-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 2011 with Sheffield winning by a score of 28-7.
