 2022 Preview

Lexington completed the 2021 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Golden Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Lexington's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Southeastern by a score of 48-28.

The Golden Bears improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2016. It marked the first time since the 2016 season that the Golden Bears qualified for the playoffs.

The defense was very stingy last season as Lexington ranked 23rd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.1 points a game.

Since 2010, Lexington has gone a combined 59-70. Their 45.7% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lexington has managed to compile a record of 130-132. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 2A and 189th in the AHSAA.

The Golden Bears are led by head coach Jason Lard who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 59-70 over the past twelve seasons at Lexington. Under his direction the Golden Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lard.

Coach Lard's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 59-70 (45.7%).

The Lexington Golden Bears will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2022 season.

The Golden Bears should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

The Golden Bears open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Colbert Heights on Friday, August 19 at Amos Mitchell Stadium. Last year the Colbert Heights Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 3A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Oakman by a score of 36-7.

Lexington and Colbert Heights have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 19-12-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2019 with Colbert Heights winning by a score of 21-20.
