Hueytown completed the 2021 season with a 13-2 record. Last year Hueytown captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Golden Gophers won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 6A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Clay-Chalkville at the Alabama Super Seven 46-42 in Birmingham. No team at Hueytown ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 2011. The 784 points scored by the Golden Gophers last year were a team record in a single season. The defense allowed a team record 348 points last season. The Golden Gophers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Patterson. saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 5-6 record in 2020. The Hueytown Golden Gophers will play in Class 6A region four during the 2022 season. The Golden Gophers enter the 2022 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. Hueytown has won 11 consecutive region games. They have won 8 straight games on their home turf at Hueytown High School Stadium. The Golden Gophers have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2015 and this year should be no exception.
