West End completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year West End just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region six with a 2-5 region record. Since 2010, the West End football program has struggled with a record of 38-85. Over the past 25 seasons, West End has managed to compile a record of 109-154. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 2A and 274th in the AHSAA. The Patriots are led by head coach Derrick Sewell who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at West End. The Patriots have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sewell. Coach Sewell's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 19-23 (45.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sewell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The West End Patriots will play in Class 2A region six during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Patriots could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. West End has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2016 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Patriots open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Gaylesville on Friday, August 19 at Trojan Field. Last year the Gaylesville Trojans finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 1A region seven. The Trojans lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Wadley by a score of 48-14. West End and Gaylesville have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 5-0-0 record against the Trojans. They last met in 1979 with West End winning by a score of 34-0. West End returns 2A All-State Senior receiver Thad Pearce.
