 2022 Preview 


       Paul Bryant finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-6 record. Last year Paul Bryant just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region four with a 2-4 region record.

       The Stampede have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022.

       Paul Bryant struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Paul Bryant has gone a combined 49-74. Their 39.8% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 19 seasons, Paul Bryant has not won much with a record of 64-129. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 6A and 332nd in the AHSAA.




       The Stampede are led by head coach Eldrick Hill who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-46 over the past eight seasons at Paul Bryant. Under his direction the Stampede have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hill.

       Coach Hill's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 35-46 (43.2%).

       The Paul Bryant Stampede will play in Class 6A region four during the 2022 season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Stampede could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. Paul Bryant missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2022.

       The Stampede open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Pleasant Grove on Friday, August 19 at Spartan Stadium. Last year the Pleasant Grove Spartans finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in first place in Class 5A region five. The Spartans lost in the Class 5A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Pike Road. They final score was 51-14 in the Super Seven finals in Birmingham.

       Paul Bryant and Pleasant Grove have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Stampede have a 0-5-0 record against the Spartans. They last met in 2013 with Pleasant Grove winning by a score of 48-7.

       Paul Bryant returns 6A All-State Senior athlete Jordan Louie. He was named to the second team last season.
