 2022 Preview

Hazel Green finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Hazel Green finished seventh in Class 6A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Trojans have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022.

Since 2010, Hazel Green has gone a combined 50-73. Their 40.7% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hazel Green has managed to compile a record of 89-166. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 6A and 323rd in the AHSAA.

The Trojans will be under the direction of new head football coach Charlie Wilburn as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Wilburn was an assistant at Bob Jones last season.

The Hazel Green Trojans will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2022 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Trojans if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season.

The Trojans open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Sparkman on Friday, August 19 at Bob Grimwood Stadium. Last year the Sparkman Senators finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 7A region four. The Senators lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Hoover by a score of 56-14.

Hazel Green and Sparkman have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 23-39-0 record against the Senators. They last met in 2019 with Sparkman winning by a score of 48-14.
