Week Eleven


The regular season is over and now on to the playoffs. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.

   *   I will post a regular season review and playoff preview for the Tidbits & Records Sunday. Look for it.

   *   We will be having our second "Pick the Super Seven Teams" in the forums starting Sunday. Come join the fun.

   *   Previews of every playoff game will be available by Sunday also.

   *   UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning streak at twenty-eight games. The Bulldogs took the week off before embarking on another trip to the finals.

   *   Barbour County extended their state leading sixty game losing streak in a 64-6 loss to Bullock County.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 44 consecutive region games and will carry that streak into next season after closing out another 0-10 season. The Lions have are 2-48 over the past five seasons.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 48 straight regular season games following a 42-0 victory over Sylvania.

   *   The Red Devils also have the longest region winning streak having won 33 straight region contests.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy lead all schools with a string of 45 consecutive home wins after taking this week off. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 36 game home winning streak after their latest victory which was at home.

   *   UMS-Wright holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 15 consecutive. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 25 straight road victories and they too took the week off.

   *   Fyffe also has the longest current streak for scoring 20 or more points in a game. The Red Devils have put up at least 20 points in 56 consecutive games dating back to 2015.

   *   Fyffe continues to extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 259 games without being shutout.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 219 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *   Barbour County allowed 664 points this season. They now hold onto the record having topped J.F. Shields (630) for points allowed in a season. They have lost 60 consecutive games dating back to 2013.

   *   Chris Hilliker, the head football coach at Northside, won the 100th game in his 15 year career. He started at Hale County before spending one season (2011) at Paul Bryant and arrived at Northside in 2012. His teams have gone 100-61 over the course of his career including a great 9-1 start this year.

   *   Alabama is 35-28 against out of state competition this season. They are 14-9 against Georgia, 8-9 against Florida, 8-5 versus Mississippi and 5-5 against Tennessee.

 * Cottage Hill Christian set a team record in a win 62-0 over St. Lukes tying the previous record set when they defeated A.L. Johnson 62-24 on 9/26/2008.



Margin of Victory in a game

 * Cottage Hill Christian set a team record by defeating St. Lukes 62-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Jackson Academy 61-0 on 8/24/2007.

 * Crenshaw Christian set a team record by defeating Meadowview Christian 68-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Evangel Christian Academy 64-0 on 9/22/2017.

 * Southside Selma set a team record by defeating A.L. Johnson 66-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Livingston 64-0 on 10/17/1975.

 * UMS-Wright has won a team record 28 consecutive games since 11/10/2017.
 * Mars Hill has won a team record 20 consecutive games since 10/5/2018.
 * Northside has won a team record 9 consecutive games since 8/30/2019.
 * Helena has won a team record 8 consecutive games since 9/13/2019.

 * Barbour County has lost a team record 60 consecutive games since 10/25/2013.
 * Columbia has lost a team record 42 consecutive games since 10/23/2015.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
