Week Ten


Just one week remains in the 2019 regular season. Almost every playoff spot is filled and teams are making preparations for the post season. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.

   *   UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning streak at twenty-eight games. The Bulldogs defeated W.S. Neal by a score of 21-6.

   *   Barbour County extended their state leading fifty-nine game losing streak in a 78-26 loss to Daleville.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 44 consecutive region games and will carry that streak into next season after losing to New Hope 48-12 on Thursday night.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 47 straight regular season games following a 47-0 victory over Ider.

   *   The Red Devils also have the longest region winning streak having won 33 straight region contests.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy lead all schools with a string of 45 consecutive home wins after defeating Fort Dale Academy 27-0 at home. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 35 game home winning streak after their latest victory which was on the road.

   *   UMS-Wright holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 15 consecutive after defeating W.S. Neal on the road. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 25 straight road victories following their 42-20 loss to Bessemer Academy at home.

   *   Fyffe also has the longest current streak for scoring 20 or more points in a game. The Red Devils have put up at least 20 points in 55 consecutive games dating back to 2015.

   *   Fyffe continues to extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 258 games without being shutout.

   *   Calhoun ended a 43 game losing streak this week. Not by winning by when Highland Home forfeited their games. Either way the streak is over for the Tigers.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 218 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *   This week ten teams scored more than 60 points in a game. This season, there have been 102 games among the AHSAA and AISA schools where at least one team scored 60 points.

   *   Barbour County has allowed 600 points through nine games. That is a record pace of 66.6 points a game. J.F. Shields holds the record for points allowed in a season with 630 in 2016. They have lost 59 consecutive games dating back to 2013.

   *   The McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets join the list of 500 win teams this week with a 42-14 victory over Baker. The Yellow Jackets have an overall record of 500-422-29 since first playing football back in 1921.

   *   Alabama is 33-26 against out of state competition this season. They are 14-9 against Georgia, 7-7 against Florida, 7-5 versus Mississippi and 5-5 against Tennessee.

 * B.B. Comer set a team record in a win 68-13 over Weaver breaking the previous record set in a victory over Hackneyville 63-0 on 10/21/1927.

 * Daleville set a team record in a win 78-26 over Barbour County breaking the previous record set in a victory over Geneva County 70-51 on 10/18/2019.

 * Helena set a team record in a win 62-20 over Pelham breaking the previous record set in a victory over Southside Gadsden 61-10 on 9/27/2019.

 * Ramsay set a team record in a win 61-7 over John Carroll tying the previous record set when they defeated Dora 61-7 on 9/11/2015.

 * St. Pauls set a team record in a 53-42 loss to Daphne breaking the previous record set in a loss to St. Stanislaus MS 49-26 on 8/26/2016.

 * Weaver set a team record in a 68-13 loss to B.B. Comer breaking the previous record set in a loss to Saks 62-14 on 10/11/2019.



Margin of Victory in a game

 * American Christian set a team record by defeating Dallas County 65-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Central Hayneville 69-6 on 10/14/2011.

 * Brooks set a team record by defeating Elkmont 71-8 breaking the previous record set when they defeated St. John Paul II 67-7 on 10/20/2017.



Margin of Defeat in a game

 * Weaver set a team record in a loss 68-13 to B.B. Comer breaking the previous record set when they lost to Oxford 54-0 on 10/14/1983.



Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game

 * Daphne set a team record in a 53-42 victory over St. Pauls breaking the previous record set when they defeated Foley 46-45 on 9/14/2012.

 * St. Pauls set a team record in a loss 53-42 to Daphne breaking the previous record set when they defeated Wilcox Central 63-29 on 11/3/2006.

 * UMS-Wright has won a team record 28 consecutive games since 11/10/2017.
 * Mars Hill has won a team record 19 consecutive games since 10/5/2018.
 * Northside has won a team record 8 consecutive games since 8/30/2019.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
