Week Four


Many teams opened region play this past Friday Night. The race to the playoffs is underway. Here are a few tidbits from this week's football action around the state.

   *  UMS-Wright has the longest winning streak in the AHSAA having posted 9 consecutive victories after defeating Williamson by a score of 19-0. Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a 18 game winning streak following a 55-7 win over Northside Methodist Academy.

   *   Barbour County has a string of forty-four consecutive losses over the past few years. They lost to Cottonwood 35-20.

   *   Bullock County broke a string of 59 consecutive region losses by defeating Dadeville 22-17. The longest region losing streak now belongs to Southeastern with a streak of 39 straight region losses.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 31 straight regular season games after beating Collinsville 54-24 on Friday.

   *   Maplesville had a streak of 54 consecutive region wins. That is until Linden beat the Red Devils Friday night by a score of 38-27. The longest region winning streak now is shared by McGill-Toolen and Demopolis with streaks of 28 straight region victories.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy have a string of 36 consecutive home wins following a 55-7 win over Northside Methodist at home. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 25 game home winning streak.

   *   Briarwood Christian has won 14 consecutive road games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a 20 game road winning streak.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 53 consecutive games.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 237 games without being shutout.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 201 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs sit at 2-2 on the season but will remain in the top ten this week. The Bucs set a team record for points allowed in a game in a 56-28 loss to Hewitt-Trussville.

   *  How about the Pike Road Patriots? All they have done is win their first four football games after restarting the program this year. Congrats Patriots!

   *  The St. John Paul II Falcons have already won more games (4) than the did in the past four seasons combined.

   *  Lymos McDonald, the head football coach at Cherokee won his 100th games as a head coach with a 60-0 victory over Vina. His record according to our files stands at (100-56). Charlie Taylor (100-76) duplicated the feat when South Choctaw Academy defeated Clarke Prep 27-26.

 * Hazel Green set a team record in a win 78-35 over Lee Huntsville breaking the previous record set in a victory over Sparkman 58-20 on 10/3/2014.

 * Hillcrest Tuscaloosa set a team record in a win 62-0 over Brookwood breaking the previous record set in a victory over Paul Bryant 61-0 on 9/30/2016.

 * Lyman Ward set a team record in a win 64-16 over Lighthouse Home School breaking the previous record set in a loss to Freedom Academy 60-84 on 9/29/2017.

 * Mars Hill set a team record in a win 64-0 over Phillips Bear Creek tying the previous record set when they lost to Shoals Christian 0-64 on 10/28/2016.

 * D.A.R. set a team record in a 75-41 loss to North Jackson breaking the previous record set in a loss to North Jackson 66-0 on 9/10/2010.

 * Hoover set a team record in a 56-28 loss to Hewitt-Trussville breaking the previous record set in a loss to Homewood 48-10 on 10/18/1996.

 * Lee Huntsville set a team record in a 78-35 loss to Hazel Green breaking the previous record set in a loss to Oxford 63-20 on 10/5/2012.

 * Mae Jemison set a team record in a 48-47 loss to Fort Payne tying the previous record set in a loss to St. Clair County 48-21 on 11/17/2017.
