Week Eight


The race to the playoffs is underway with three weeks remaining in the regular season. Region Championships are on the line now. Here are a few tidbits from this week's football action around the state.

   *  UMS-Wright has the longest winning streak in the AHSAA having posted 12 consecutive victories following a 65-0 victory over Monroe County. Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a 22 game winning streak following a 28-0 win over Pike Liberal Arts.

   *   Barbour County has a string of forty-seven consecutive losses over the past few years. They lost to Ariton 53-0 Monday.

   *   The longest region losing streak belongs to Brindlee Mountain with a streak of 37 straight region losses following a 55-6 region loss to Plainview.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 35 straight regular season games after beating Cedar Bluff 56-0 on Friday.

   *   The longest region winning streak belonged to the Yellow Jackets of McGill-Toolen with a streak of 30 straight region victories before they fell to Theodore Friday by a score of 15-3. Demopolis now has the longest region winning streak at 30 games.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy have a string of 38 consecutive home wins following their road victory Friday. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 27 game home winning streak.

   *   Rogers now has the longest road winning streak among the AHSAA schools at 13 games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a 22 game road winning streak.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 57 consecutive games after putting up 32 on a good Isabella team Friday night.

   *   The Fyffe Blue Devils continue to score each and every game. They extend their streak of consecutive games scoring to 241 games.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 205 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs defeated Spain Park 32-7.

   *   Cottage Hill Christian and Westminster Christian are 7-0 for the first time in their respective school's histories. Saraland has won their first six games for the first time in school history.

   *   Some of the best turnaround stories this season include Houston Academy who finished last year 0-10 and are off to a 6-1 start this year. Smiths Station also finished 0-10 last year and are off to a 5-3 start in 2018. Headland went 1-9 last year and are 6-0 this season. North Jackson finished 2-8 in 2017 but have turned that into a perfect 7-0 record this year. Lastly Edgewood Academy has gone from 1-9 last year to 6-2 in 2018.

   *   Josh Niblett, the head football coach at Hoover will be going for his 200th win next week against rival Vestavia Hills. His overall coaching record is a magnificent 199-50 over a 19 year career at Oneonta, Oxford and Hoover.

   *   Michael Robertson won his 150th game at Hokes Bluff over the past 23 seasons. His record stands at 150-104.

   *   North Jackson thumped Priceville 69-7 Friday. They have scored 452 points in seven games for an average of 64.6 points each week. The record for scoring in the regular season is over 90 years old set by the Tuscaloosa Black Bears in 1926 when they averaged 59.1 points over a nine game season. The most points scored in any regular season belongs to Demopolis in 2004 when they scored 577 in 10 games. Edgewood Academy scored 594 in 2014 in the AISA.

 * Falkville set a team record in a win 70-27 over Coosa Christian tying the previous record set when they defeated Decatur Heritage Christian 70-41 on 10/12/2018.

 * Providence Christian set a team record in a win 61-0 over Opp breaking the previous record set in a victory over Donoho 56-0 on 9/26/2008.



Points allowed in a game

 * Cornerstone Christian set a team record in a 64-27 loss to Southern Academy breaking the previous record set in a loss to Chambers Academy 57-7 on 9/7/2018.

 * Decatur Heritage Christian set a team record in a 70-41 loss to Falkville breaking the previous record set in a loss to Donoho 65-0 on 11/7/2014.

 * Sipsey Valley set a team record in a 64-7 loss to American Christian breaking the previous record set in a loss to Leeds 61-27 on 11/9/2012.



Margin of Victory in a game

 * Providence Christian set a team record by defeating Opp 61-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Donoho 56-0 on 9/26/2008.

 * St. Lukes set a team record by defeating Fruitdale 62-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated J.F. Shields 55-0 on 10/5/2018.



Margin of Defeat in a game

 * Sipsey Valley set a team record in a loss 64-7 to American Christian breaking the previous record set when they lost to Gordo 55-0 on 10/8/2010.



Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game

 * Decatur Heritage Christian set a team record in a loss 70-41 to Falkville breaking the previous record set in a loss to Falkville 60-37 on 8/28/2015.

 * Lauderdale County set a team record in a 52-46 victory over Phil Campbell breaking the previous record set when they defeated Sulligent 52-41 on 11/4/2005.



Teams with current school record winning streaks

 * Monroe Academy has won a team record 22 consecutive games since 8/18/2017.
 * Falkville has won a team record 8 consecutive games since 8/24/2018.


Teams with current school record losing streaks

 * Barbour County has lost a team record 46 consecutive games since 10/25/2013.
 * Calhoun has lost a team record 38 consecutive games since 10/31/2014.
 * Ellwood Christian has lost a team record 33 consecutive games since 9/17/2015.
 * Columbia has lost a team record 29 consecutive games since 10/23/2015.
 * Verbena has lost a team record 17 consecutive games since 11/4/2016.

 * Chickasaw set a team record with a 4-4 record. That ties the previous mark of 4-7-0 in 2015.

 * Pike Road set a team record with a 6-2 record. That tops the previous mark of 5-3-0 in 1928.

 * Southeastern set a team record with a 3-4 record. That tops the previous mark of 2-8-0 in 2017.

 * St. John Paul II set a team record with a 5-2 record. That tops the previous mark of 3-6-0 in 2013.



Teams that set a record for most losses in a season

 * Mae Jemison set a team record with a 2-6 record. That tops the previous number of losses when they finished 6-5-0 in 2016.

 * Park Crossing set a team record with a 4-3 record. That ties the previous number of losses when they finished 8-3-0 in 2015.

 * Snook Christian set a team record with a 2-7 record. That tops the previous number of losses when they finished 5-5-0 in 2017.

 * St. Michael set a team record with a 0-7 record. That tops the previous number of losses when they finished 0-1-0 in 2017.

 * Asbury set a team record by scoring 66 points. That tops the previous mark of 66 points set in 2016.

 * Mars Hill set a team record by scoring 368 points. That tops the previous mark of 343 points set in 2017.

 * Pike Road set a team record by scoring 269 points. That tops the previous mark of 172 points set in 1928.

 * St. John Paul II set a team record by scoring 259 points. That tops the previous mark of 152 points set in 2013.

 * St. Michael set a team record by scoring 61 points. That tops the previous mark of 27 points set in 2017.

 * Lee-Scott Academy set a team record by allowing 334 points. That tops the previous mark of 332 points set in 2005.

 * Pike Road set a team record by allowing 131 points. That tops the previous mark of 131 points set in 1923.

 * Snook Christian set a team record by allowing 438 points. That tops the previous mark of 368 points set in 2017.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Super 6 State Championships began in 1996. Since then all title games were played at Legion Field in Birmingham until 2009.
