Week Ten


Most playoff slots are filled but a few are still to be determined this last week of the regular season. Here are a few tidbits from this week's football action around the state.

   *   UMS-Wright has the longest winning streak in the AHSAA having posted 14 consecutive victories following a 29-0 victory over W.S. Neal. Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a 23 game winning streak following an open week.

   *   Barbour County has a string of forty-nine consecutive losses over the past few years. They lost to Daleville 52-0 Friday night.

   *   The longest region losing streak belongs to Brindlee Mountain with a streak of 38 straight region losses following a 64-0 loss at the hands of New Hope.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 37 straight regular season games after beating Ider 54-0.

   *   Demopolis has the longest region winning streak at 32 games. The Tigers defeated Chilton County 38-17 to close out region play for the Tigers.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy have a string of 38 consecutive home wins following their open date Friday. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 28 game home winning streak.

   *   Rogers had the longest road winning streak among the AHSAA schools at 14 games before falling to Central Florence 14-7 on the road. Lanett will take over the lead for consecutive road wins with a streak of 12 games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a 22 game road winning streak.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 59 consecutive games after defeating Francis Marion 56-22 on the road.

   *   The Fyffe Blue Devils continue to score each and every game. They extend their streak of consecutive games scoring to 243 games.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 207 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs defeated Mountain Brook 31-7.

   *   Saraland, Cottage Hill Christian and Westminster Christian are 9-0 for the first time in their respective school's histories.

   *   Georgiana  won the 500th game in the school's history according to our records.

   *   North Jackson defeated Randolph 55-7 Friday. They have scored 576 points in nine games for an average of 64.0 points each week. The record for scoring in the regular season is over 90 years old set by the Tuscaloosa Black Bears in 1926 when they averaged 59.1 points over a nine game season. The most points scored in any regular season belongs to Demopolis in 2004 when they scored 577 in 10 games. Edgewood Academy scored 594 in 2014 in the AISA.

 * Coosa Christian set a team record in a win 71-14 over Valley Head breaking the previous record set in a victory over Pell City Christian 70-0 on 11/1/1985.

 * Northside Methodist Academy set a team record in a win 52-8 over R.F. Munroe FL breaking the previous record set in a victory over Lakeside 49-34 on 10/23/2015.

 * Thorsby set a team record in a win 60-8 over Central Coosa tying the previous record set when they defeated Vincent 60-0 on 10/2/2015.



Points allowed in a game

 * Valley Head set a team record in a 71-14 loss to Coosa Christian breaking the previous record set in a loss to Cedar Bluff 65-0 on 9/17/2010.



Margin of Victory in a game

 * Northside Methodist Academy set a team record by defeating R.F. Munroe FL 52-8 breaking the previous record set when they defeated South Montgomery Academy 43-0 on 9/4/2014.



Margin of Defeat in a game

 * Brindlee Mountain set a team record in a loss 64-0 to New Hope breaking the previous record set when they lost to Sylvania 63-0 on 10/5/2018.



Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game

 * Thompson set a team record in a 63-49 victory over Hewitt-Trussville breaking the previous record set when they defeated Jemison 70-33 on 11/5/2004.

 * Monroe Academy has won a team record 23 consecutive games since 8/18/2017.
 * Jacksonville has won a team record 10 consecutive games since 8/24/2018.
 * Falkville has won a team record 9 consecutive games since 8/24/2018.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
