Third Round Playoffs


The Semi-finals of the playoffs are here for the lower six classifications. Half the teams are going home and the other half will play on in search of a title. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *   UMS-Wright has the longest winning streak in the AHSAA having posted 17 consecutive victories following a third round 21-19 win over American Christian.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy have a string of 40 consecutive home wins. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 30 game home winning streak after defeating Ohatchee 21-13.

   *   Lanett had a 12 game road winning streak snapped when they fell to Maplesville Friday by a score of 29-6. Hokes Bluff and Randolph County have both won 12 consecutive road games to take the lead in this category. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a 22 game road winning streak.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 63 consecutive games after Lanett.

   *   The Fyffe Blue Devils continue to score each and every game. They extend their streak of consecutive games scoring to 247 games.

   *   Central Clay County, Flomaton, Mars Hill and Providence Christian won quarter-final playoff games for the first time in their school's history.

   *   The above teams will get their first taste of semi-finals action this week. Thompson has not been here since the 1982 season.

   *   Oneonta is 9-1 in the semis-finals of the playoffs. Randolph County is 5-1 and Deshler is 10-4.
