The 2018 season began over the weekend. Here are a few tidbits from this week's football action around the state.

Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a 14 game winning streak.

   *   The Pike Road Patriots won their first football game in 85 years on Friday night when they shutout Calhoun by a score of 68-0. The school is fielding a football team this year for the first time since the 1933 season. Their last win came against Notasulga in October, 1933. Congratulations to Coach Browning and the team.

   *   Barbour County has a string of forty-two consecutive losses over the past few years. They started this season with a 46-7 loss to Notasulga.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 198 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs opened the 2018 season in a very familiar spot as the #1 team in 7A.

   *   Gordo will try to extend their streak of 25 straight winning seasons.
