Week 9

Teams are making a final charge toward the playoffs with just two regular season games remaining.  Here are a few tidbits from the ninth week of action.

  *   Clay-Chalkville defeated Woodlawn 42-8 on Friday night. The Cougars have a string of games where they have scored at least 20 points that has reached 55 straight. They are approaching the state record held by Hoover with a string of 56 games.

  *   Edgewood Academy added to their impressive streak. They have scored more than 20 points in 52 consecutive games following a 70-13 victory over Springwood. It was the fifth game this season that Edgewood has scored more than 60 points.

  *   Spanish Fort had their AHSAA leading 31 game winning streak snapped by rival Daphne 7-0. The new leader is Dale County with a string of nine consecutive victories. Twenty other teams are tied for second with eight wins in a row.

  *   Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 53 game winning streak.

  *   Butler suffered another loss. The Rebels have now lost 37 consecutive games after falling to Guntersville 52-22. The streak is not close to the longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

  *   Bullock County has also lost 38 consecutive region games following a 47-8 loss to Straughn.

  *   Maplesville rolled past A.L. Johnson 63-0 and extended their regular season winning streak of 22 games. They were tied with Spanish Fort for the AHSAA lead but are now all alone at the top after the Toro's loss. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA with a string of 40 straight victories on their home field.

  *   Tanner has a string of 41 consecutive games in which they have come out a winner in region play after winning a non-region game this week.

  *   Maplesville has also won 38 consecutive home games.

  *   Trinity, off to an 4-5 start with a tough schedule, will try to extend their streak of 32 straight winning seasons. The Wildcats last suffered through a losing season way back in 1981 when they finished with a 4-6 record. After starting the season 1-5, they are making a valiant effort to continue the streak.

  *   The T.R. Miller Tigers have an amazing streak of 350 games without being shutout after taking the week off.
