Week 7

Back to region play as teams prepare to make their final charge toward the playoffs.  Here are a few tidbits from the seventh week of action.

  *   We begin this weeks notes with one on Hoover. The Bucs defeated Spain Park 42-14 on Thursday night in just another football game for them. Here is something to ponder.... the Bucs have not lost a game on the field to an unranked team since dropping one to Vestavia Hills in week six of the 1999 season 38-29. That is a string of 133 consecutive victories over unranked in-state opponents. A couple of notes here. This does not include the 2007 forfeits and only includes in-state opponents. Very impressive to say the least. I doubt any team in the country can match that record. Hoover has also been ranked in the last 157 polls released by the ASWA.

  *   Central Phenix City and Gordo join the 500 win club at AHSFHS.org this week. Gordo  with a researched record of (500-307-27) and Central Phenix City with an overall record of (500-351-32) become the 42nd and 43rd teams to join the list.

  *   Coach Jeff Foshee, head football coach at Stanhope Elmore won his 100th game as a head coach as the Mustangs defeated rival Wetumpka 21-10. His overall record in 15 years with the Mustangs sits at 100-64.

  *   Clay-Chalkville got back to region play by thumping Center Point 49-6. They have a string of games where they have scored at least 20 points that has reached 53 straight. Edgewood Academy added to their impressive streak. They have scored more than 20 points in 50 consecutive games following a 48-0 beat-down of Macon-East Academy. The state record is held by none other than Hoover with a string of 56 games.

  *   Spanish Fort extended their AHSAA leading consecutive game winning streak of 30 straight victories.

  *   Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 51 game winning streak.

  *   Butler suffered another loss. The Rebels have now lost 35 consecutive games after falling to Randolph 65-34. The streak is not close to the longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

  *   Bullock County has also lost 36 consecutive region games following a 54-6 setback to Andalusia.

  *   Maplesville took the week off and will try to extend their regular season winning streak of 20 games next Friday. They are tied with Spanish Fort for the AHSAA lead after the Fort defeated Baldwin County 41-7 Friday night.. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA with a string of 38 straight victories.

  *   Tanner has a string of 39 consecutive games in which they have come out a winner in region play. Monroe Academy ended a streak of 36 consecutive region wins with a 16-8 lose to Escambia Academy.

  *   Maplesville has also won 37 consecutive home games.

  *   Trinity, off to an 2-5 start with a tough schedule, will try to extend their streak of 32 straight winning seasons. The Wildcats last suffered through a losing season way back in 1981 when they finished with a 4-6 record.

  *   The T.R. Miller Tigers have an amazing streak of 349 games without being shutout after beating Escambia County 58-20.

  *   Coach Mike McCombs, the head coach at Bibb County collected his 99th win as a head football coach in 14 seasons at six different schools.
