After Third Round of Playoffs


 

The state playoffs are winding down in search of the Super Seven teams. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

  *    Escambia Academy came from behind to defeat Bessemer Academy 35-28 and win the school's first ever AISA state Championship in Troy on Friday. It is also the first time the team has won eleven games in a single season.

  *    Edgewood Academy won their fifth consecutive title with a 55-25 win over Marengo Academy. It is also their sixth title in seven years. Edgewood also set a record by scoring 751 points in a thirteen game season. They averaged 57.8 points a game in 2014.

  *    Abbeville Christian Won over Patrician Academy 25-14 to capture their first ever State Championship after posting back-to-back ten win seasons.

  *    Dale County defeated Montgomery Academy and moved to the semi-finals for the first time in their school's history. Florence beat Gardendale and accomplished the same feat. Ranburne (1975), Glencoe (1993) and Billingsley (1997) will be back in the semi-finals after a long drought.

  *    Teams still playing who have never won a semi-final game include Dale County, Florence, Hubbertville, Madison County, Pleasant Grove and Saraland.

  *    Hoover, improved to 17-1 in 18 appearances to the semi-finals of the playoffs.

  *    There are still eight undefeated 13-0 team remaining along with three 12-0 teams. All four teams remaining in Class 2A are undefeated.

  *    Clay-Chalkville defeated Decatur 38-10 in the third round of the playoffs. The Cougars extended their state record streak of scoring at least 20 points that has reached 60 straight.

  *   Edgewood Academy added to their impressive streak. They have scored more than 20 points in 57 consecutive games following a 55-25 victory over Marengo Academy for their fifth consecutive AISA State Championship.

  *   Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 58 game winning streak. The mark is a state record for any team playing eleven man football.

  *   Maplesville extended their home winning streak to 42 consecutive games. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA with a string of 31 straight home wins.

  *   The T.R. Miller Tigers have an amazing streak of 354 games without being shutout after a second round loss to Montgomery Academy.
