AHSFHS.org Report
(Nov. 15, 2014)

After Second Round of Playoffs

The state playoffs are winding down in search of the Super Seven teams. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

  *    Foley defeated Fairhope 34-7 and moved to the semi-finals for the first time in their school's history. Opp will play a third round game for the first time also. Ranburne (1975), Haleyville (1986), Walter Wellborn (1995), Glencoe (1996) and Billingsley (1997) will be back in the third round.

  *    Teams still playing who have never won a third round game include Dale County, East Limestone, Flomaton, Florence, Haleyville and Opp.

  *    Maplesville, no stranger to the third round, is 12-1 at home but only 3-4 on the road if 20 third round appearances. The Red Devils will travel to Notasulga on Friday.

  *    The Hoover Bucs are 16-1 in the semi-finals in the team's history.

  *    Spanish Fort is 4-0 at home but 0-2 on the road in the third round. The Toros travel to McAdory next week.

  *    Cordova is 7-1 in third round games. Not a bad record as they prepare to play Haleyville next Friday.

  *    Clay-Chalkville defeated Scottsboro 35-14 in the second round of the playoffs. The Cougars extended their state record streak of scoring at least 20 points that has reached 59 straight.

  *   Edgewood Academy added to their impressive streak. They have scored more than 20 points in 56 consecutive games following a 41-13 victory over Wilcox Academy.

  *   Twelve teams are tied for the state lead with twelve game winning streaks.

  *   Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 57 game winning streak. The mark is a state record for any team playing eleven man football.

  *   Maplesville extended their home winning streak to 42 consecutive games. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA with a string of 31 straight home wins.

  *   The T.R. Miller Tigers have an amazing streak of 354 games without being shutout after a second round loss to Montgomery Academy.
