THIS WEEK IN ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
AHSFHS.org Report
(Nov. 9, 2014)

After first Round of Playoffs

On to the second round of the state playoffs. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

  *    Ramsay and Ellwood Christian move on to the second round for the first time in their school's history.

  *    Teams still playing who have never won a second round game include the two above and; Cleveland, Fruitdale, Jacksonville, Opp and Phillips Bear Creek.

  *    Clay-Chalkville defeated Scottsboro 85-50 in the first round of the playoffs. The Cougars extended their state record streak of scoring at least 20 points that has reached 58 straight. The 85 points is also a playoff record, surpassing the 2012 mark set by Marion County in a win over Meek.

  *    The Clay-Chalkville and Scottsboro game also set a record for most points in a playoff game by both teams. The 135 points topped the old standard set in a game between Etowah (69) and Oxford (63) in 1991.

  *   Edgewood Academy added to their impressive streak. They have scored more than 20 points in 55 consecutive games following a 61-0 victory over Pickens Academy.

  *   Fourteen teams are tied for the state lead with eleven game winning streaks.

  *   Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 56 game winning streak. The mark is a new state record for any team playing eleven man football.

  *   Maplesville extended their home winning streak to 41 consecutive games. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA with a string of 30 straight home wins.

  *   Trinity, made a valiant effort to continue their streak of 32 straight winning seasons, but came up short on Friday. The Wildcat coaches, players and fans should be very proud of the very impressive streak and hopefully They will start a new streak next fall. Vestavia Hills would have taken their place but came up short also, finishing with a 3-7 record. So, the Gordo Green Wave take over the top spot with 22 consecutive winning seasons.

  *   The T.R. Miller Tigers have an amazing streak of 353 games without being shutout after taking the week off.
