 2023 Preview 


       Plainview completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Plainview finished sixth in Class 3A region six with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Plainview has gone a combined 85-58. Their 59.4% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Plainview has managed to compile a record of 180-102. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 3A and 69th in the AHSAA. The Bears have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Bears are led by head coach Dale Pruitt who is entering his twenty-eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 218-100 over the past twenty-seven seasons at Plainview. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty times. They have won twelve region crowns with Coach Pruitt. His 309 wins rank 4th among active coaches in the AHSAA. The win total includes 279 wins in Alabama and 30 victories from outside the state. Over the course of his career, Coach Pruitt's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-five times and won thirteen region championships. He has a 32-25 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches.

       The Bears have one of the toughest schedules in the state this season. Their non-region opponents finished 30-7 last year. The Bears graduated a big senior class this spring but will return a talented sophomore class. Coach Pruitt will be looking for more help from his experienced juniors and seniors this season.

       Plainview returns seven seniors, only five juniors but 15 sophomores and 17 freshmen. Keeping those players healthy will be key to another successful season in Plainview. The Bears have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 75-45 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 3A and 6th in the AHSAA.

       The Bears have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region six this season. Plainview came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Bears open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Priceville on Friday, August 25 at Plainview Stadium. Last year the Priceville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 4A region eight. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Oneonta by a score of 34-20.

       Plainview and Priceville have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Bears have a 3-1-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Priceville winning by a score of 20-8.

       Plainview lost 3A All-State  defensive back Levi Brown to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

From 1947 until his retirement in 1992 Glenn Daniel's teams won 302 games at Pine Hill and Luverne. He was the winningest coach in state history until 2010.
