 2022 Preview

Woodlawn finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Woodlawn finished seventh in Class 6A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Colonels have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Colonels last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Woodlawn was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Colonels want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.4 points a game.

Woodlawn struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 40.5 points a game.

The Colonels would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Woodlawn football program has struggled with a record of 22-99.

Over the past 25 seasons, Woodlawn has not won much with a record of 51-198. Their 20.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 6A and 385th in the AHSAA. The Colonels have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time.

The Colonels are led by head coach Gentrell Eatman who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-19 over the past two seasons at Woodlawn. The Colonels have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Eatmon.

Coach Eatmon's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 9-39 (18.8%).

The Woodlawn Colonels will play in Class 6A region five during the 2022 season.

The Colonels enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Colonels will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five.

The Colonels open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Bessemer City on Thursday, August 18 at Lawson Field. Last year the Bessemer City Purple Tigers finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 6A region four. The Purple Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Jasper by a score of 41-14.

Woodlawn and Bessemer City have met a total of 47 times on the football field. The Colonels have a 16-28-3 record against the Purple Tigers. They last met in 2013 with Bessemer City winning by a score of 50-0.
