 2022 Preview

Crossville finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Crossville finished seventh in Class 5A region seven with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2014. The defense allowed a team record 448 points last season. The Lions last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Crossville averaged scoring just 5.4 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 44.8 points a game.

The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Crossville football program has struggled with a record of 28-93.

Over the past 25 seasons, Crossville has managed to compile a record of 97-164. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A and 309th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010.

The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Riley Edwards as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Edwards served as an assistant on the Lions staff last season.

The Crossville Lions will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2022 season.

The Lions enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Lions will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Crossville will be to simply win some games.

The Lions open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Ider on Friday, August 19 at Wayne C. Hardiman Stadium. Last year the Ider Hornets finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 2A region seven. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Aliceville by a score of 46-6.

Crossville and Ider have met a total of 54 times on the football field. The Lions have a 33-20-1 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2003 with Crossville winning by a score of 35-7.
