 2022 Preview 


       Collinsville finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Collinsville just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region seven with a 2-4 region record.

       Collinsville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2017. The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 2007.

       Collinsville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Panthers want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.7 points a game.

       Since 2010, Collinsville has gone a combined 86-48. Their 64.2% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Collinsville has managed to compile a record of 147-124. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 2A and 146th in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers are led by head coach Ernie Willingham who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 83-61 over the past thirteen seasons at Collinsville. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Willingham.

       Coach Willingham's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 134-91 (59.6%). His 134 wins rank 37th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Willingham's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won four region championships.

       The Collinsville Panthers will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2022 season. The Panthers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region seven this year.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Collinsville missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2022.

       The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Crossville on Saturday, August 27 at Cagle Civitan Stadium. Last year the Crossville Lions finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 5A region seven. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Geraldine by a score of 53-0.

       Collinsville and Crossville have met a total of 80 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 35-44-1 record against the Lions. They last met in 2021 with Collinsville winning by a score of 21-20.
