 2018 Preview

Munford completed the 2017 season with a 9-2 record. Last year Munford captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Munford's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to W.S. Neal by a score of 21-12.

The defense was very stingy last season as Munford ranked 16th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.8 points a game.

Since 2010, Munford has gone a combined 62-33. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Munford has managed to compile a record of 125-137. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 5A and 217th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

The Lions are led by head coach William F. Smith who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-11 over the past three seasons at Munford. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Smith.

Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 60-41 (59.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship.

The Munford Lions will play in Class 5A region five during the 2018 season. The Lions move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Lions enter the 2018 season riding a 9 game regular season winning streak.

The Lions will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2011 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2018.

The Lions open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Oxford on Friday, August 24 at Munford Stadium. Last year the Oxford Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 6A region seven. The Yellow Jackets lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 31-15.

Munford and Oxford have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Lions have a 0-3-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 1974 with Oxford winning by a score of 31-22.

Munford returns 4A All-State  athlete Zay Britt. He was named to the first team last season.
