 2018 Preview 


       Elkmont finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Elkmont finished seventh in Class 3A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Elkmont averaged scoring just 13.6 points a game.

       The Red Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, Elkmont has gone a combined 27-56. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Elkmont has managed to compile a record of 98-151. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 4A and 291st in the AHSAA.




       The Red Devils are led by head coach Duane Wales who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Elkmont. The Red Devils saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Wales arrived. The Red Devils have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wales.

       Coach Wales' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%).

       The Elkmont Red Devils will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2018 season. The Red Devils move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       Region eight will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. This season, the Red Devils will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight.

       The Red Devils open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Clements on Friday, August 24 at Boss Hill Stadium. Last year the Clements Colts finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 3A region eight. The Colts closed out the regular season with a loss to St. John Paul II by a score of 16-13.

       Elkmont and Clements have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 28-34-0 record against the Colts. They last met in 2017 with Clements winning by a score of 7-0.
