2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Meek completed the 2016 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Meek just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region seven with a 2-4 region record. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Meek has gone a combined 28-44. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Meek has managed to compile a record of 109-165. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A and 283rd in the AHSAA. Lance Archer leaves Meek after seven seasons with a 28-44 record including 0-2 in the playoffs. David Norwood will coach at Meek this year. Norwood has previously been the head football coach at Austin from 2004-2009 where his teams finished a combined 23-38. He was also at Gardendale for two years beginning in 2002 and compiled a 19-5 record. Coach Norwood's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 42-43 (49.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Norwood's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won two region championships. The Meek Tigers will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2017 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-50 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 1A and 52nd in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Phillips Bear Creek on Friday, August 25 at Meek Field. Last year the Phillips Bear Creek Bears finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in third place in Class 1A region eight. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 35-8. Meek and Phillips Bear Creek have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 12-12-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2016 with Meek winning by a score of 44-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
