2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Huffman completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Huffman finished seventh in Class 7A region three with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Huffman was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Vikings want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.0 points a game. Since 2010, Huffman has gone a combined 23-48. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Huffman has managed to compile a record of 132-135. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 7A and 204th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2007. The Vikings are led by head coach Alex Wilson who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-33 over the past five seasons at Huffman. Under his direction the Vikings have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wilson. Coach Wilson's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 33-50 (39.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wilson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Huffman Vikings will play in Class 7A region three during the 2017 season. The Vikings have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-47 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 7A and 39th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Vikings if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. The Vikings open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Parker on Friday, September 1 at Lawson Field. Last year the Parker Thundering Herd finished with an overall record of 5-4 and in sixth place in Class 6A region five. The Thundering Herd ended last season on a positive note with a win over Woodlawn by a score of 14-8 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Huffman and Parker have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Vikings have a 17-13-0 record against the Thundering Herd. They last met in 2016 with Parker winning by a score of 7-0. College prospects include: Allen Love (6-2, 282) defensive tackle, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
