Holt finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Holt finished eighth in Class 4A region four with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 533 points last season. The Ironmen have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Ironmen last playoff victory came during the 1998 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Holt averaged scoring just 8.7 points a game. The Ironmen also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 53.3 points a game. The Ironmen would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Holt football program has struggled with a record of 10-60. Over the past 25 seasons, Holt has not won much with a record of 85-171. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 4A and 332nd in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 1998. The Ironmen are led by head coach Bruce Jackson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Holt. The Ironmen have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jackson. Coach Jackson's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 27-45 (37.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jackson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Holt Ironmen will play in Class 4A region four during the 2017 season. The Ironmen enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Ironmen will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Holt will be to simply win some games. The Ironmen open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Shelby County on Friday, September 1 at Wildcats Stadium. Last year the Shelby County Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 5A region five. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Jemison by a score of 42-35 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Holt and Shelby County have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Ironmen have a 0-2-0 record against the Wildcats.
