 2017 Preview 


       Glencoe finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Glencoe finished sixth in Class 3A region five with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Glencoe took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2012. The Yellow Jackets lost as many games as in any season since 2002. The Yellow Jackets hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 9-2 record in 2015.

       Glencoe was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Yellow Jackets want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.8 points a game.

       Since 2010, Glencoe has gone a combined 57-25. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Glencoe has managed to compile a record of 161-125. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A and 125th in the AHSAA.

       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Rusty Davis who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Glencoe. The Yellow Jackets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis.

       Coach Davis' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 3-7 (30.0%).

       The Glencoe Yellow Jackets will play in Class 3A region five during the 2017 season. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 77-43 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 3A and 6th in the AHSAA.

       Region five will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. It will be an uphill battle for the Yellow Jackets if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season.

      

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent West End Walnut Grove on Friday, August 25 at Patriot Stadium. Last year the West End Walnut Grove Patriots finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region seven. The Patriots lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Lanett by a score of 53-14.

       Glencoe and West End Walnut Grove have met a total of 28 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 16-11-1 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2016 with Glencoe winning by a score of 28-21.
