 2017 Preview 


       Brooks completed the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. Last year Brooks captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-1 record. Brooks reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Wenonah by a score of 42-14.

       Since 2010, Brooks has gone a combined 56-25. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Brooks has gone a combined 199-100. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 5A and 39th in the AHSAA. The Lions have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1998.

       The Lions are led by head coach Brad Black who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-5 over the past two seasons at Brooks. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Black.

       Coach Black's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 20-5 (80.0%).

       The Brooks Lions will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2017 season.

       The Lions enter the 2017 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

       The Lions should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Lions open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Fayette County on Friday, September 1 at John Morgan Brown Stadium. Last year the Fayette County Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-7 and in second place in Class 4A region six. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Madison Academy by a score of 36-0.

       Brooks and Fayette County have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Lions have a 2-4-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Brooks winning by a score of 21-0.

       Brooks returns 5A All-State Senior offensive lineman Kameron Stutts. He was named to the first team last season. The Lions also return Senior receiver Lazarius Decatur. He was named to the honorable mention team.
