 2016 Preview

Montevallo completed the 2015 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region four, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Montevallo reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Leeds by a score of 62-7.

The Bulldogs improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2008. The Bulldogs won as many games as in any season since 1998. It marked the first time since the 2011 season that the Bulldogs qualified for the playoffs. The Bulldogs hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Wilcox saw improvement as they won nine games following a 1-9 record in 2014.

Since 2010, Montevallo has gone a combined 20-42. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Montevallo has managed to compile a record of 118-142. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 3A and 240th in the AHSAA.

Andrew Zow stepped down from the head coaching position at Montevallo in January to accept the same position at Calera.

The former Crimson Tide quarterback led Montevallo to the second round of the playoffs in 2015 before losing to eventual state champions Leeds. His teams at Montevallo finished a combined 13-29 in four seasons.

Brandon Wilcox moves from Marion County to Montevallo after only two seasons at the school with a 10-14 record. His first team went 8-6 and lost in the semi-finals of the playoffs.

The 32 year old coach is a graduate of T.R. Miller and North Alabama.

Following college, Wilcox held coaching positions at Verbena High School (defensive coordinator, head strength and conditioning coach), Carroll High School (linebacker, head strength and conditioning coach), Dale County High School (offensive line, linebacker, head strength and conditioning coach and assistant head coach) and Enterprise as the linebackers coach prior to accepting the head coaching position at Marion County in 2014.

Coach Wilcox's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 10-14 (41.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wilcox's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

The Bulldogs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

The Bulldogs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent West Blocton on Friday, August 26 at Theron Fisher Stadium.
