2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Florala finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Florala finished seventh in Class 1A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Florala took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. The Wildcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2007 season and would love to end that streak this year. Florala was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.6 points a game. Florala struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 47.3 points a game. Since 2010, Florala has gone a combined 23-36. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 1A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Florala has managed to compile a record of 110-153. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 1A and 260th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Brad Rhodes who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-11 over the past two seasons at Florala. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Rhodes. Coach Rhodes' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 13-26 (33.3%). The Florala Wildcats will play in Class 1A region two during the 2016 season. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 44-44 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 1A and 188th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. After just 2 wins last year, Florala will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Wildcats open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent J.U. Blacksher on Friday, August 26 at Matthews Stadium. Last year the J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in first place in Class 1A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Verbena by a score of 21-13. Florala and J.U. Blacksher have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 4-4-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2013 with Florala winning by a score of 36-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
