 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region 8, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. West Point's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Alexandria by a score of 41-21.  The 352 points scored by the Warriors last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, West Point has gone a combined 27-35. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, West Point has managed to compile a record of 119-145. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A and 232nd in the AHSAA.

       The Warriors are led by head coach Don Farley who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-15 over the past three seasons at West Point. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Farley.

       Coach Farley's overall record as a head football coach in three seasons stands at 17-15 (53.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Farley's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

      

      The West Point Warriors will play in Class 5A region 6 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Warriors remain in 5A but move from region 8 over to region 6.

       The Warriors have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 6 this season.

       The Warriors open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Hamilton on Friday, August 19 at Warrior Field. Last year the Hamilton Aggies finished with an overall record of 6-7 and in fourth place in Class 4A region 5. The Aggies lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cordova by a score of 30-20.

       West Point and Hamilton have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 1-3-0 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2018 with Hamilton winning by a score of 48-42.

  








Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
