 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region 1, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Marengo reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Maplesville by a score of 50-6.

       Since 2010, Marengo has gone a combined 25-39. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Marengo has managed to compile a record of 130-136. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 1A and 199th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Eberne Myrthil who is entering his second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 13-9 over the past two seasons at Marengo. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Myrthil.

       Coach Myrthil's overall record as a head football coach in four seasons stands at 20-22 (47.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Myrthil's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

      

      The Marengo Panthers will play in Class 1A region 1 during the 2016 season.

       The Panthers have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 1 this season.

       The Panthers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Choctaw County on Friday, August 26 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Choctaw County Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 2A region 1. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Millry by a score of 20-18.

       Marengo and Choctaw County have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 5-2-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2020 with Marengo winning by a score of 1-0.

       Marengo returns 1A All-State Senior athlete Cordarius Pritchett. He was named to the first team last season. The Panthers also return Junior defensive lineman DeAngelos Crispin. He was named to the first team. The Panthers also return Junior receiver Michael Kennedy. He was named to the first team.
