Week nine of the 2025 football season is
history. Many teams have clinched a playoff spot with many more to be claimed
this coming week. Here are a few tidbits
from this past week's games.
* The AHSFHS
Podcast is uploaded for our listeners. This week take a look at the playoff
possibilities for all 52 regions from 7A down to 1A. Join us as TP gives us some
predictions and we pass out helmet stickers.
* I want to let everyone know that we are not the official site
for anything. I do my best to figure out all the tiebreakers in all 52
regions but it takes time and can be tiresome. Most times I am right but
do miss a few things because there are so many variables involved. The
AHSAA is the final and only official site for all region standings but we don't get to see
those until about Wednesday.
*
We at AHSFHS.org want to wish Ron Ingram the best in his retirement. He
has been very instrumental over the past 50 years in making high school sports
what they are today in the state. Ron was always there for me to answer
questions when I got confused about something which is often. He will be
missed not only by me but by all high school sports fans.
* Look for the Barber Shop Guru predictions on
Tuesday along with the usual content at AHSFHS.org. The guys struggled a
little last week but will bounce back this week I am sure. You can test your luck in beating them by joining us in the forums.
* No out-of-state games this week with a few more
to be played the last week of the regular season. Here is how our great state
stacks up thus far. Overall the AHSAA schools are 24-16
against other states. Here
are the records against neighboring states. Georgia (4-6), Florida (12-10), Mississippi
(7-0), Tennessee (1-0) and South Carolina (1-0). There are a handful of out of state games on the
slate next week.
* The game of the year or at least the game of the week
was Williamson taking on Vigor in Mobile. The Lions took the opening
kickoff back for a touchdown and defeated the Wolves 22-14 in overtime.
Both teams played exceptional well especially on defense.
* Dominant wins: Pike Road scored on the
first play of the game and ran over
previously undefeated Russell County by a score of 49-7. McKenzie just outscored
Brantley 76-45. Appalachian shocked Woodville 62-7.
* More statement wins.
Auburn dominated Carver Montgomery 41-7 in what was thought to be a close
matchup. Alexandria got past Cherokee County 36-28. Theodore beat
Gulf Shores 20-14 in a huge region one game. Clay-Chalkville got a little
revenge for last year's loss by beating Oxford 40-16.
* We always have a few upsets and this week was no
different. Hoover knocked off 17 point favorite Thompson 33-30 on a last
second 55 yard field goal. G.W. Long surprised Providence Christian as a
12 point underdog. Ashville upset Hokes Bluff 24-21 and Baker shocked
favorite Mary Montgomery 43-28. Homewood upset Parker 35-28 after jumping
out to a quick 21-0 lead.
* Comeback wins?
The Baker win over MGM was pivotal for region one. The Hornets overcame a
28-23 deficit to win the game. Pleasant Valley came back from being down
20-7 early to defeat North Sand Mountain 42-27. Hartselle scored on an
8-yard run with 8 seconds remaining in the game to defeat Jasper 17-14.
* Close games? James Clemens needed a last second 36 yard field goal
to get past region foe Austin 33-31. Jackson-Olin got past Minor 46-40 to
keep their playoff hopes alive on Thursday. Fairview needed every point
they could get to defeat Sardis 41-39. Robertsdale scored a 42-35 victory
over Alma Bryant in double overtime to snap a 22 game region losing streak and
get their first ever win over a 7A school.
* Fyffe has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
184 consecutive polls dating back to the 2009 season. The Red Devils were ranked
#3 last week in Class 3A and defeated Holly Pond 54-14.
* Wadley
has the state's longest winning streak currently at twenty-two games. The
Bulldogs took last week off in preparation fro their huge game this week against
Winterboro.
* Columbia holds onto the longest losing streak at 99
straight setbacks. The Eagles fell to Athens 64-14. They hold the
all-time record for consecutive losses.
* Demopolis owns a string of 32 consecutive region victories.
The Tigers knocked off Jemison 35-8 but will have a tougher task this week as
the host undefeated Northside.
* Columbia has also lost
60 consecutive region games.
* West Morgan has won
32 straight regular season games following the Rebels win over Central Florence by a
score of 57-19 Friday.

road wins. They finish the season with four straight home games and will not be
back on the road until the playoffs

games without being shutout. T.R. Miller tops this list with a string of 354
games.
* Coach Darrell Higgins and his Mars Hill Panthers continue to
roll following a 55-0 shutout of Colbert Heights. The win gives Coach Higgins
the 100th victory of his career. Through ten seasons his record is an
amazing 100-27 at Mars Hill.
* The Leroy Bears won the 600th game in program history.
Congratulations to the Bears and this great accomplishment. They first
fielded a football team back in 1926 and since have gone 600-407-26. Plus
they won a few state championships along the way.
* Jeff Kelly has led the Saraland Spartans the
past fifteen seasons to a state championship and 153 wins on the field. On
Friday he won the 200th game of his 22 year career. His overall record
stands at 200-71.
