Week Seven of the 2025 football season is
history. Teams are getting in playoff mode as the regular season winds down. Here are a few tidbits
from this past week's games.
* The AHSFHS
Podcast is uploaded for our listeners. This week we switched formats to cover
each and every region in the state. Join us as we begin looking at the playoff
possibilities for the teams.
* Look for the Barber Shop Guru predictions on
Tuesday along with the usual content at AHSFHS.org. You can test your luck in beating them by joining us in the forums.
* Three Number One teams lost this week so look for a shakeup in
the ASWA polls this week.
* No out-of-state games this week with a few more
to be played the last week of the regular season. Here is how our great state
stacks up thus far. Overall the AHSAA schools are 22-15
against other states. Here
are the records against neighboring states. Georgia (3-6), Florida (11-9), Mississippi
(6-0), Tennessee (1-0) and South Carolina (1-0). There are a handful of out of state games on the
slate this week.
* How
about we begin this week with what I'll call "taking care of business" wins.
Central Phenix City made a statement with a 36-0 shutout of rival Auburn.
The Thompson Warriors took care of Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 34-12. Carver
Montgomery ran away from Enterprise 49-14.
*
More statement wins. Clay-Chalkville tried to prove they were the best
team in any classification with an impressive 49-0 win over Mountain Brook.
Anniston got past Cherokee County 20-13.
* In a huge game down in 4A St. Michael outscored #1 Jackson 49-39 in a
matchup of a couple of great teams. Cottage Hill Christian scored their
first ever win over T.R. Miller by a score of 28-14 on Friday.
* Any
upsets? You know there were a few. Brewer shocked a very good Scottsboro team
34-31 for their first win over a ranked opponent since 1999. Huntsville
upset Austin after entering the game as an 8 point underdog 21-17. Lanett
knocked off 2A #1 Reeltown 20-19. Sparkman surprised Bob Jones 29-26. Lastly,
Whitesburg Christian upset Holly Pond 28-6.
* Comeback
wins? Madison Academy was down by two scores late in the game before
storming back for a 57-56 win over North Jackson. What a game! Central
Clay County scored on a 35 yard pass play with nine seconds remaining to defeat
Elmore County by a score of 21-14. Opelika scored on a 92-yard pass with
1:55 left in the game to knock off Dothan 21-14.
* Close games? St. Clair County and Leeds went back and forth all
night before the Fighting Saints pulled out a double overtime victory 50-49.
Boaz got a fourth down stop to defeat Sardis 28-24. McAdory squeaked past
Central Tuscaloosa 21-20. Southside Gadsden needed two overtimes to beat
Mae Jemison 22-16.
* It seems every week the offenses are setting records. Ramsay ran
over Hayden 73-6. West Morgan thumped East Lawrence 64-0. Vinemont
set all kinds of school records in a 78-42 win over Hanceville. In all 42
teams scored at least 50 points this week in the AHSAA.
* Fyffe has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
182 consecutive polls dating back to the 2009 season. The Red Devils were ranked
#4 last week in Class 3A.
* Wadley
has the state's longest winning streak currently at twenty games. The
Bulldogs defeated Woodland 49-7 last week.
* Columbia holds onto the longest losing streak at 97
straight setbacks. The Eagles fell to Decatur 37-0. They hold the
all-time record for consecutive losses.
* Demopolis owns a string of 30 consecutive region victories.
The Tigers knocked off Shelby County 29-27. Reeltown
saw their string of 26 straight region wins come to an end with a 20-19 loss to
Lanett.
* Columbia has also lost
58 consecutive region games.
* West Morgan has won
30 straight regular season games following the Rebels win over East Lawrence Friday.
* Saraland, ranked #2 in 6A, has reeled
off a string of 35 consecutive home victories.
* Saraland also has the longest away
winning streak with 16 consecutive road wins. They defeated Baldwin County
28-0 on the road.
*
The Red Devils of Fyffe are currently sitting on a string of 339
games without being shutout. T.R. Miller tops this list with a string of 354
games.
* Coach Steve Smith will travel with his Westbrook Christian team
out of state this week as they take on Trion, Georgia. The significance of this
game is that with a victory he will join the 300 win club for high school
football coaches in Alabama. Now that is a great accomplishment.
* Mike Battles Jr., the head coach at Southern Academy
can also join the 200 win club with his father this week at Southern will host
Fort Dale Academy.
* Brian Seymore at Trinity came up short in his
bid to win the 150th game of his career last week against Montgomery Academy but
will get a second chance this week as the Wildcats travel to Northside
Methodist.
* Cherokee County
can become the 47th school to claim 600 wins in program history, according to our records.
They came up short against Anniston but will try their luck this week as they
play host to Hokes Bluff.
* Pike County can win the 500th game in school history this
week as they travel to Straughn on Friday night.
