Week Six of the 2025 football season is in the
history books. Region play resumes this week for most every team. Here are a few tidbits
from this past week's games.
* We appreciate the fans listening to our
Podcast each week and want you to know we will be a little late this week due to
scheduling conflicts. We should have the podcast uploaded later Sunday
night.
* Look for the Barber Shop Guru predictions on
Tuesday along with the usual content at AHSFHS.org. You can test your luck in beating them by joining us in the forums.
* More games than usual were cancelled for various reasons.
Pickens County vs. Gordo, Ariton at Dale County, Headland at Ashford, B.T.
Washington at Bowdon GA and Pike Liberal Arts at Notasulga. That is the most
cancellations in one week since Covid.
* IMG Academy knocked off Central Phenix City
49-14. Overall the AHSAA schools are 22-15
against other states. Here
are the records against neighboring states. Georgia (3-6), Florida (11-9), Mississippi
(6-0), Tennessee (1-0) and South Carolina (1-0). There are a handful of out of state games on the
slate this week.
* Let's start this off with some comeback wins. Mountain
Brook needed a Hail Mary on a two-point conversion attempt to defeat Homewood in
overtime 25-24. I'm sure most of you have seen the video of the dramatic ending
by now.
* More comeback wins. Opelika used a goal line
stand with a couple of minutes remaining to defeat Pike Road 24-22.
Madison Academy fell behind 28-14 to Arab before coming all the way back to win
35-27.
* In the game of the week Clay-Chalkville took down
7A Thompson 28-24 in another great game between these two powerhouse football
programs. The Cougars continue their mastery of the Warriors for the third
straight year.
* Who does not appreciate an upset or two?
Falkville upset Colbert Heights 22-12 after being a 19 point underdog. Gadsden
City did the same to Bob Jones as a 17 point underdog and Mountain Brook, a 16
point underdog to Homewood, won in unbelievable fashion to say the least 25-24.
* How about impressive wins? Good Hope
enjoyed a big victory over Addison 41-6. Spain Park got past James Clemens 28-7.
UMS-Wright took down T.R. Miller 29-6. Central Clay County beat Scottsboro 26-9.
Wadley surprised Glenwood 35-21.
* Close games? The Hoover Bucs got back on
the winning track with a huge 48-45 win over Parker. Daphne broke open a close
game to end a four game losing streak to Spanish Fort by a score of 42-28.
Hillcrest Tuscaloosa got past Hueytown 27-26.
* The offenses were clicking for a few teams.
By now everyone knows Williamson simply destroyed what was left of the murphy
football program by a score of 100-0. The last time a team in Alabama scored 100
points in a game was in 1970 when Keith pulled it off in a 122-0 win over
Alabama Industrial.
* Fyffe has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
181 consecutive polls dating back to the 2009 season.
The Red Devils opened the 2025 season as the #3 team in
3A before dropping to #7 last week.
* Wadley
has the state's longest winning streak currently at nineteen games. The
Bulldogs defeated 3A Glenwood 35-21 last week.
* Columbia holds onto the longest losing streak at 96
straight setbacks. The Eagles led much of the game against East Lawrence before
losing 28-24. Keep fighting Columbia. They hold the
all-time record for consecutive losses.
* Demopolis owns a string of 29 consecutive region victories.
The Tigers return to region play Friday hosting Shelby County. Reeltown
with a string of 26 straight region wins is next up.
* Columbia has also lost
57 consecutive region games.
* West Morgan has won
29 straight regular season games following an open date last week. The Rebels
host East Lawrence Friday evening.
* Saraland, ranked #2 in 6A, have reeled
off a string of 35 consecutive home victories.
* Saraland also has the longest away
winning streak with 15 consecutive road wins. They will travel to Baldwin County
following an open date last week.
*
Fyffe has returned to doing what Fyffe does. They are currently sitting on a string of 338
games without being shutout. The Red Devils took the week off and will be
traveling to Sylvania this week in hopes of keeping that
streak alive. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354
games.
* Coach Rush Propst and his Conquerors defeated 6A Blount for the 300th win in his storied career in Alabama and Georgia.
In Alabama his record stands at 181-72 over the course of twenty-one seasons. In
Georgia his teams went 119-47 in a dozen seasons. Overall in both states he is
300-119 in thirty-three seasons as a head football coach at nine different
schools.
* Coach Bryan Moore at Opelika joined the 100 win club last
Friday as the Opelika Bulldogs defeated Pike Road 24-222 in a close game. His
record at Eufaula, Jasper, Hartselle and Opelika stands at 100-25 in eleven
seasons.
*
Bullock County has started the season 5-0 for the first time since 1972 when
they finished the season with a 9-1 record. The Hornets will attempt to extend
that streak against Handley this coming Friday.
* Cherokee County
can become the 47th school to claim 600 wins in program history, according to our records,
this week when they travel to Anniston for an important region contest.
* Albertville, under the direction of first year
head coach Adam Winegarden, knocked off Grissom 20-18 to put a stop to a school
record 33 game losing streak.
* Tharptown also ended a school record 22 game
losing streak as the Wildcats defeated Vina 40-12.
