Week two of thee 2025 season is in the history books
with region play starting for most teams next week. Here are a few tidbits
from this past week's games.
* Seems the weeks are just clicking away
now. A few teams got into region play last week with most every team joining in
the fun this coming week. Time to see which teams will rise to the top.
* Look for the Barber Shop Guru predictions on
Tuesday. The guys knocked it out of the park last week with a 10-2 record only
missing the Vestavia Hills/Auburn and the Spanish Fort/Theodore games. Great job
by the trio. You can test your luck in beating them by joining us in the forums.
* Once again this week there were some excellent interstate matchups
but none bigger than #1 Thompson traveling to #1 Grayson GA. I think we have
seen this play out before as the Warriors fell in overtime by a score of 24-23.
If Thompson could only win an overtime game! Their last four losses were all in
overtime. Twice to Grayson, Hoover and Clay-Chalkville.
* Opelika defeated Callaway GA 36-35 also in overtime. The Bulldogs scored
with 15 seconds remaining in regulation and held off a two-point attempt by
Callaway in overtime to come away with the victory. Central Phenix City traveled
down south to
Orlando and returned home with a hard fought 38-35 win. Dothan Scored late to
defeat Monroe GA 37-34.
* Shockers and contenders? How about Vestavia
taking down Auburn Thursday 42-14. Clay-Chalkville 64-0 over #9 Ramsay. Moody
dominating Oxford 31-7. Benjamin Russell knocking off Central Clay County 40-7.
Vigor running over 7A Tuscaloosa County 61-14. Fyffe got back in the win column
with a 60-28 win over Pisgah.
* A new king of the hill in 5A? St. Clair County broke open a close game
late to take the victory from Catholic Montgomery by a score of 42-28. It is the
first time the Fighting Saints have beaten a ranked opponent since 2017.
* Luverne simply shocked Brantley 75-0 to set
several records for both schools. Among them are most points scored in a game,
largest margin of victory and margin of defeat.
* Pleasant Valley defeated #6 Spring Garden 40-7. A
historic win for the football program. They had lost their last 70 games in a
row against ranked opponents dating back to 1984. They are now 3-73 against
ranked foes since 1984.
* Upsets? Yes we did have a few as always. Wilson upset Danville 45-14 after being a 16
point underdog. Orange Beach 16-7 Citronelle. B.C. Rain 27-23 over Foley.
Alexandria over Jacksonville 34-7 All these teams were at least two
touchdown underdogs according to the Power Ratings.
* The first two weeks of every season provide a bunch of upsets as teams often play across
classifications so a few top ten teams saw their hopes of a perfect season fall
by the wayside. No less than 19 ranked teams lost in week two. Six ranked 2A
teams lost.
* Fyffe has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
177 consecutive polls dating back to the 2009 season.
The Red Devils opened the 2025 season as the #3 team in
3A before dropping to #7 last week.
* Catholic Montgomery saw their 30 game winning
streak go by the wayside in their loss to St. Clair County. Wadley assumes the
top spot with a fifteen games winning streak following their convincing 58-10
win over Horseshoe Bend.
* Columbia holds onto the longest losing streak at 93
straight contests following a 21-10 loss to Huffman. They now hold the
all-time record for consecutive losses.
* Catholic Montgomery has a streak of 40 consecutive region wins.
The Knights open region play next week at home against Eufaula.
Demopolis (28) and Reeltown (23)
are the next two schools with long region winning streaks.
* Columbia has lost
55 consecutive region games
and will open region play by traveling to Muscle Shoals.
*
The #2 ranked Catholic Montgomery Knights had won
44 straight regular season games before the most recent loss. West Morgan will
assume the top spot with a streak of 26 straight wins.
* Saraland, ranked #3 in
6A, entered the 2025 season with a string of
33 consecutive home wins. The Spartans will host Gulf Shores on their home field
in week three.
* Catholic Montgomery also saw the longest road
winning streak come to an end on the road at St. Clair County where they had won 28 consecutive road games.
Saraland will grab that spot with a string of 14 consecutive road wins after
opening the season with two victories away from their home turf.
*
Ramsay was shutout for the first time in 45 games following a 64-0 loss to
Clay-Chalkville.
*
Fyffe got back to their winning ways against Pisgah. They are currently sitting on a string of 335 games
without being shutout. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354
games.
* Congratulation go to Lincoln who put a stop to a school record
15 game losing streak by knocking off Munford 38-14. Wilson also ended their
record 19 game losing streak with a convincing 45-14 victory over Danville.
* Congratulation are also in order for Brindlee Mountain as they
posted their first shutout in 111 games with a 41-0 win over Vina. Their last
shutout win was back in 2014. It is also the largest margin of victory ever for
the team.
* Coach Danny Raines with the 150th game during his great
coaching career. His overall record stands at 150-101 in 23 seasons as a head
football coach. Berry took down Pickens Academy by a score of 51-28.
*
Ten coaches will be in search of
their 100th win as a head football coach once the season opens. All have over 90
victories during their careers. Other coaches are within reach of several
different milestones this season.
