2026 Preview

Highland Home completed the 2025 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region three, the Flying Squadron earned a spot in the playoffs in 2025. Highland Home's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Reeltown by a score of 55-19.        Highland Home took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2019. The Flying Squadron hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 13-1 record in 2024.        Since 2010, Highland Home has gone a combined 110-74. Their 59.8% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A over the past sixteen seasons.        Over the past 25 seasons, Highland Home has managed to compile a record of 161-121. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 2A and 120th in the AHSAA. Head Coach:        The Flying Squadron are led by head coach Phillip Coggins who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-12 over the past three seasons at Highland Home. Under his direction the Flying Squadron have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Coggins. Over the course of his career, Coach Coggins' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship. Season Outlook:        The Highland Home Flying Squadron will play in Class 2A region two during the 2026 season.        The Flying Squadron have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 70-42 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 2A and 35th in the AHSAA. Highland Home will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.        The Flying Squadron took a step backwards last year with a 5-6 record from the previous three seasons.        Brody Phillips rushed for 1,069 yards and 14 TDs and will return for his Senior season.     The Flying Squadron could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs every year since 2019 and hopes are high to extend that streak.

Season Opener:
       The Flying Squadron open the 2026 season at home against non-region opponent McKenzie on Friday, August 28 at Clay Stadium. Last year the McKenzie Tigers finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 1A region two. The Tigers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Leroy by a score of 60-38.

       Highland Home and McKenzie have met a total of 28 times on the football field. The Flying Squadron have a 12-16-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with McKenzie winning by a score of 61-20.
