Waterloo completed the 2025 season with a 4-5 record. Last year Waterloo just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region seven with a 3-4 region record. Since 2010, Waterloo has gone a combined 50-110. Their 31.3% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 1A over the past sixteen seasons. Over the past 20 seasons, Waterloo has not won much with a record of 67-129. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 1A and 322nd in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Brad Palmer resigned after six seasons as the Cougars head coach. Season Opener:
The Cougars open the 2026 season on the road against non-region opponent Holy Spirit on Friday, August 21 at Arthur Howington Field. Last year the Holy Spirit Saints finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 1A region three. The Saints ended last season on a positive note with a win over Sumiton Christian by a score of 1-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.
Waterloo and Holy Spirit have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 1-2-0 record against the Saints. They last met in 2013 with Holy Spirit winning by a score of 13-0.
